County Park to Host National Youth Outdoor Program(Syracuse) – The Boy Scouts of America and Oneida Shores Park in conjunction with the Bass Anglers Sportsmen Society (BASS) will host a Trailblazer Adventure Day on Saturday, August 15 during the August 13-16 Ramada Champion's Choice at Onedia Shores Park in Brewerton. Trailblazer Adventure, a program of the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation (USSAF), is designed to introduce families to outdoor activities and promote an outdoor lifestyle. Hundreds of youth and their families will participate in the upcoming Trailblazer Adventure Day. BASS Federation Nation members and the local New York BASS Chapter Federation will set up a BASS CastingKids station, in addition to archery, firearms, trapping, game calling and more. Activities run from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., after which the Bassmaster Elite Series Tournament weigh-in will be held, and participants will get a chance see their favorite Bassmaster Elite Series anglers. “We’re looking forward to having Trailblazer be a part of our final regular season Bassmaster Elite Series event,” said Stacy S. Twiggs, senior manager of the BASS Federation Nation. “We are always looking for ways to entertain attendees on-site and the Trailblazer program will serve our youth fans well.” Groups involved in the program include the Oneida Shores Park, Boy Scouts of America, BASS Federation Nation and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. Other groups providing their expertise include the National Wild Turkey Federation, Adirondack-Catskill Safari Club International, Crosman Corporation, Hiawatha Seaway Council, BSA, NY BASS Chapter Federation, NY Houndsmen Conservation Association, NY State Trappers Association and Gander Mountain. These partners give young people the chance to experience a variety of outdoor activities including archery, firearm safety, trapper education, fishing and many other conservation education programs,” said Derrek Shively, USSAF director of education. “Trailblazer’s success is possible because of the many groups working together to give this opportunity to youth and their families. Holding our event in conjunction with the BASS event will undoubtedly raise the excitement generated to new levels.” The USSAF Trailblazer Adventure Program has been honored with the Take Pride in America® award by the Dept. of Interior for its leadership in recruiting youth and families to the experiences of hunting and fishing and for teaching them about outdoor activities and conservation.
